Garrett and another Uranium Backflip
Worlds apart from running with the Nuclear Disarmament Party in the early eighties, Peter Garrett MP has approved Australia's fourth uranium mine, the Four Mile Mine owned by Quasar Resources. Around 550km northwest of Adelaide, the new mine is only a few kilometers from the Beverly uranium mine (owned by Heathgate Resources) where last year Garrett approved an expansion from 16 to 100 square kilometers. Up until last year the Labor Party had a three uranium mine policy, so this decision from a former anti-nuclear campaigner proves highly controversial. The 3rd Degree's Libby King and James Hitchcock spoke to:
