With James Hitchcock
Download show: Ep. 2011-20: Mountaintop Removal Mining
lawandenvironment.com |
This week, James takes us to the USA to look at the issue of mountaintop removal mining. Activists across America are calling for an end to the destructive process and staging a 5-day, 50-mile march through the Appalachian Mountains, retracing an earlier 'March on Blair Mountain' - when miners travelled the same route in 1921 unionising the workforce and fighting for better working conditions and wages.
James spoke to Dr. 'Chuck' C. Belmont Keeney. Chuck has a PhD in history from West Virginia University and is a descendant of one of the leaders of the 1921 March on Blair Mountain.
